UNEP
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations’ leading global authority on the environment, established in 1972 to coordinate international responses to environmental challenges. UNEP sets the global environmental agenda, provides science-based policy guidance, and supports countries in integrating environmental sustainability into development planning. It plays a central convening role through the United Nations Environment Assembly, the world’s highest-level decision-making body on environmental matters, and hosts or supports key multilateral environmental agreements addressing climate change, biodiversity, chemicals, and pollution. UNEP’s work focuses on tackling the “triple planetary crisis” of climate change, nature and biodiversity loss, and pollution and waste through robust science, capacity building, and policy support. With a global presence and extensive experience in developing regions, UNEP also mobilizes finance and de-risks investments to accelerate low‑carbon and climate‑resilient development, particularly in underserved and high‑risk markets.
