GenVision, Tatanga Energy and AMDG Energy partner to develop 300 MW Solar Power Project in Zambia’s Copperbelt
GenVision, Tatanga Energy and AMDG Energy are pleased to announce the signing of an agreement to jointly develop a landmark 300 megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic power project with up to 800 megawatt hours (MWh) of battery storage in Zambia’s Copperbelt region. The project, located approximately 10 kilometers north of Kitwe, represents one of the most significant renewable energy developments in the region to date.
GenVision, a joint venture between commodities giant Glencore and renewable energy developer and investor Nvision, brings a fully integrated independent power producer model capable of managing the complete project lifecycle—from development and engineering through financing, construction and operation, enabling faster delivery and lower cost of power generation across Africa.
Tatanga Energy is an experienced developer and operator of renewable energy assets across sub-Saharan Africa. The company has been involved in several notable projects, including the Sable Solar PV Park and the largest wind power project to date in Zimbabwe. Its team combines deep technical, financial and project execution expertise, supported by a wide network of local and international advisors.
AMDG Energy having heeded the Government of Zambia’s call for the urgent and accelerated development of alternative renewable energy projects to mitigate the impact of the power deficit facing the country has been focusing on the development of large scale solar and wind energy projects. AMDG Energy’s project delivery objective is to contribute to the wider region’s transition towards a more sustainable energy future, utilising its wide network, depth of professional resources and professional track record.
The 300 MW + 800 MWh Northern Power Project is expected to provide a major boost to Zambia’s electricity supply, supporting industrial growth in the Copperbelt, one of the country’s key economic regions. Once operational, the project will generate affordable, clean power that will help reduce the nation’s power deficit, strengthen grid stability, and support economic diversification efforts.
Speaking on behalf of the partners, GenVision stated: “This collaboration demonstrates a shared commitment to accelerating Zambia’s transition to reliable, sustainable and cost-effective energy. By combining GenVision’s integrated project delivery model with Tatanga’s and AMDG Energy’s regional expertise and local presence, we are creating a strong platform to deliver real economic impact and energy security for Zambia.”
Further announcements will follow as the project progresses through design, permitting and financing milestones.
