Off-Grid Europe strengthens its commitment to Africa: CEO Kragh accompanies Federal President Steinmeier on a state visit to Egypt, Ghana, and Angola
Off-Grid Europe GmbH (OGE), an international company operating in the field of renewable energies and battery storage with a focus on Africa, looks back on a successful participation in Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier’s trip to Egypt, Ghana, and Angola. CEO Christiane Kragh accompanied the Federal President’s economic delegation from November 1 to 7, 2025, to deepen bilateral economic relations and promote urgently needed energy independence in the partner countries.
Angola: Breakthrough in electrification
The trip led to an important breakthrough for OGE in Angola. The planned large-scale project to provide 62,550 solar home systems for rural areas received full support at the presidential and ministerial levels. The inclusion of the project in Angola’s 2026 budget plan marks a decisive step ahead of its official launch.
“The direct support from the Angolan government is a strong signal for the need for decentralized energy solutions. We are confident that our commitment will make a significant contribution to electrification and thus improve the living conditions of tens of thousands of people,” said Christiane Kragh after the meetings in Luanda and Huambo.
According to the Office of the Federal President, the trip to Angola, the first visit by a German president, in the year in which Angola celebrates its 50th anniversary of independence and holds the presidency of the African Union, underscored the country’s growing importance as an anchor of stability and partner for Germany. Special attention was also paid to the development of the Lobito Corridor and the deposits of critical raw materials.
Ghana: Solutions to combat post-harvest losses
In Ghana, talks focused on reducing post-harvest losses. OGE presented its Much Cooler Hall, an optimal, off-grid cooling solution that can help preserve agricultural products for longer, thereby strengthening value chains. The high-level meetings, including with President John Dramani Mahama, provide OGE with important support for its market entry in Ghana.
The Federal President also exchanged views with representatives of civil society and start-up founders in Ghana and learned about German-Ghanaian projects in vaccine research and vocational training in Kumasi. With this visit, Germany is recognizing Ghana’s regional commitment to stability and peace in West Africa.
High-level networking as the key to success
The entire trip enabled OGE to benefit significantly from the high-level networking opportunities offered by the economic delegation.
“We would like to thank the Federal President and the Office of the Federal President for the honor of being part of this important economic delegation. The intensity and quality of the contacts made on this trip are invaluable for accelerating our commitment in Africa and will advance our mission of energy independence worldwide in the long term,” said Christiane Kragh.
