Nigeria electricity regulation passes to 16 subnational commissions two years into the Act

Ikeja Electric and Eko Disco were directed to incorporate Lagos subsidiaries when oversight transferred in 2025, a structure now repeating across the country. NERC chairman Musiliu Oseni confirmed this month that 16 states regulate their own markets, licensing suppliers and setting tariffs inside their borders.

Nigeria FLNG project secures 15 years of supply ahead of a fourth-quarter decision

UTM Offshore has signed a wet gas sale and purchase agreement with the NNPC and Seplat Energy joint venture for 200 million standard cubic feet a day from the Yoho field. The $5 billion development is owned 72% by UTM, 20% by NNPC and 8% by Delta State.

African Atlantic Gas Pipeline opens financing talks with US EXIM and the World Bank

Morocco’s ambassador to Washington confirmed the discussions to Bloomberg on 25 July, six days after ECOWAS heads of state signed the intergovernmental agreement in Freetown. Construction on the 6,800km route is expected to begin in 2028, with first deliveries targeted for 2031. The estimated cost is $26 billion.

TotalEnergies has more than 4,000 workers back at Afungi with first cargoes due in 2029, Eni has approved Coral Norte, and UTM signed feed gas for Nigeria’s first indigenous floating plant this month. The agency has removed around 120 billion cubic metres from projected growth by the end of the decade.

A lithium plant at Endo in Nasarawa State, commissioned on 2 July, processes 6,000 tonnes of ore a day on around $250m of investment. It is the first working demonstration of Nigeria’s rule that minerals should be refined at home before they leave, and of what accepting that rule produces.
