Eunice Biritwum, Energy Commission | West Africa Energy Cooperation Summit (WAECS) 2025

In this video interview, Eunice Birtwum of the Energy Commission reflects on West Africa’s vast renewable energy potential and what it will take to translate resources into reliable, shared power systems for the future.

She outlines how regional collaboration and grid development can enable countries to unlock large-scale renewable projects, while highlighting the regulator’s role in ensuring these projects move from planning to delivery. The conversation also explores Ghana’s just energy transition agenda, with a focus on scaling renewables beyond utility-scale projects to households and SMEs.

A key highlight is the Commission’s newly launched web-based application portal, designed to help households and small businesses understand how to invest in solar, participate in distributed generation, and – where access allows – feed excess power back into the grid. Together, these efforts point to a more inclusive energy transition, enabling citizens and businesses in Ghana to play an active role in shaping a sustainable energy future.
