Seriti Green passes 1,700 jobs as it builds out its renewables business

Seriti Green has created more than 1,700 jobs across its projects, and runs job seeker and vendor platforms connecting individuals and businesses to the work coming through. In Mpumalanga, where employment has run through the coal value chain for generations, that number is the one the Just Energy Transition gets judged on.

The company has appointed Jasmin Pillay as Chief People Officer to build the organisation behind it. Her remit runs wider than human resources, covering organisational capability, leadership effectiveness, workforce planning and culture, alongside economic and enterprise development and social development.

Pillay spent more than twenty years at Microsoft and PETRONAS Lubricants International before joining. She met chief executive Peter Venn and chairman Mike Teke before taking the role.

“In a growth business, the question is not simply whether you have enough people. It’s whether you have the right skills, leadership and organisational environment to deliver your strategy,” Pillay said.

Venn said the appointment strengthens the company’s ability to build the organisational capability its next phase requires.

“For me, the Just Energy Transition is ultimately about people. Infrastructure and investment are critical, but the long-term success of the transition will depend on whether people have access to new opportunities, new skills and sustainable careers,” Pillay said.
