From Dialogue to Impact: Highlights from the Knowledge Sharing Session, Borehole Commissioning and AFNIS 2025

3rd February, 2026

The Nigerian Indigenous Women in Mining and Natural Resources Organisation (NIWIMNRO) advanced its mission to empower Indigenous women miners through a focused three-day programme of engagement, capacity building and community impact.

The programme opened in Abuja with a knowledge-sharing session that brought together women artisanal and small-scale miners from Niger, Nasarawa and Kaduna states for direct dialogue with mining experts, development practitioners and partners. Discussions addressed safety, policy, legal rights and financial inclusion, while providing space for women miners to share practical challenges across the mining value chain.

Momentum continued with the commissioning of a solar-powered borehole at Kuchiko Camp in Niger State, delivering clean water to a mining community and addressing a critical infrastructure gap. The initiative reflected NIWIMNRO’s commitment to translating capacity building into tangible community outcomes.

The programme concluded with NIWIMNRO’s participation in the Africa Natural Resources and Energy Investment Summit (AFNIS) 2025, where the organisation engaged in high-level sector dialogues, reinforcing its role in shaping inclusive policy and strengthening the visibility of Indigenous women miners in Nigeria’s mining sector.
