Guinea and United States Strengthen Energy Partnership During Powering Africa Summit

19th March, 2026

Washington, D.C., March 19, 2026 — The Minister of Energy of the Republic of Guinea, Mr. Laye-Sékou Camara, expressed his sincere appreciation to the Government of the United States and senior members of the U.S. Administration for their continued engagement and support for Guinea’s development priorities. Minister Camara emphasized that Guinea attaches great importance to the strengthening partnership between the two countries as it advances efforts to expand and modernize its energy system in support of the country’s rapidly growing mining, refining, and industrial sectors.

Minister Camara also welcomed the growing strategic dialogue between Guinea and the United States on industrial development and critical minerals supply chains. In this regard, he highlighted Guinea’s participation in the White House-hosted ministerial meeting held on February 4, convened by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, which brought together leading mineral-producing nations to discuss secure and resilient global supply chains. Guinea was honored to participate as one of only three African countries invited to the dialogue, alongside Kenya and the Democratic Republic of Congo, reflecting Guinea’s increasing importance as a strategic partner in the global critical minerals ecosystem.

During his visit to the United States, Minister Camara also participated in the Powering Africa Summit, an annual forum that brings together African leaders, U.S. government officials, development institutions, and private sector investors to advance partnerships aimed at expanding reliable energy access across the continent. On the margins of the Summit, Minister Camara held a productive meeting with U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, during which both sides discussed opportunities to deepen cooperation in the development of modern energy infrastructure needed to support Guinea’s expanding industrial base. Minister Camara noted that reliable and scalable energy supply will be essential to enabling the next phase of Guinea’s development, particularly in the growth of the bauxite and alumina value chain.

In this context, the Government of Guinea welcomes continued collaboration with U.S. government institutions and American private sector partners in advancing modern energy solutions, including LNG-based infrastructure such as the Guinea LNG initiative being developed with West Africa LNG Group, which aims to provide reliable energy to power Guinea’s rapidly growing industrial base. Minister Camara also engaged with representatives of U.S. industry and investment partners participating in the Summit to discuss opportunities for cooperation in Guinea’s energy and industrial sectors.

“Guinea is committed to building a strong and enduring partnership with the United States in support of our country’s development,” said Minister Camara. “Reliable energy infrastructure will be essential to unlocking the full value of Guinea’s natural resources, and we welcome collaboration with U.S. institutions and American companies to help power the next phase of our economic transformation.”
