Itimpi II went into service at Kitwe in May at a cost of $125.8 million, funded entirely from Copperbelt Energy Corporation's $200 million green bond. It is the largest operational solar plant in Zambia, and it was built without a sovereign guarantee standing behind the paper.

Europe closes its Russian gas contracts by 2027 and African suppliers are the nearest replacement

Long-term LNG contracts with Russian suppliers become prohibited across the European Union from January 2027, with long-term pipeline contracts ending later that year. African gas production sits closer to European ports than any alternative, and roughly 93 million tonnes a year of new global capacity is arriving at the same time.

Korhogo’s 66MW solar plant was funded without a euro of foreign capital

The Africa Finance Corporation disbursed €43 million in April under the Poro Power Green Bond, the first project finance green bond in Côte d'Ivoire and across the West African Economic and Monetary Union. It forms part of a €65 million facility structured in euros and CFA francs, funding a 66MW solar plant at Korhogo.

Morocco adds a French route to three European power links already in negotiation 

France opened a call for expressions of interest in a direct Morocco interconnection on 16 July, six days before Reuters reported the $30 billion German subsea link had stalled. With a second Spanish link planned and a Portuguese one under study, Rabat is now negotiating four routes into Europe's electricity market at once.
