Ghana FPSO Gas Upgrade Contract Secures 600 Million Dollar Extension
Yinson Production has finalised an infrastructure modification agreement for the floating production storage and offloading asset operating in Ghanaian waters to expand technical capacity for domestic thermal plants.
Offshore Ghana, the John Agyekum Kufuor floating production vessel will undergo a gas processing upgrade following a lease extension to 2036.
Yinson Production finalised the modification contract to boost the cumulative firm value of the asset framework by 810 million dollars. The group attributes 600 million dollars of the baseline transaction value to its core enterprise operations. The remaining capital covers operational adjustments over the ten-year extension period.
The investment finances processing module retrofits engineered to eliminate offshore gas flaring and scale up exports into the onshore distribution network. The asset redirects processed volumes to the national thermal power hub at Aboadze to provide a predictable feedstock supply for independent generators.
For the Ministry of Energy, the expansion represents a direct strategy to decouple domestic industrial networks from expensive imported liquid fuels. By securing structural volumes from the offshore field, the state intends to stabilise its baseline generation matrix and insulate wholesale tariffs from global shipping volatility.
