HYDRO-LINK

HYDRO-LINK, a private-sector Independent Transmission Project (ITP), is set to become a landmark in African energy infrastructure. Spanning 720 miles, this 400kV cross-border transmission line, supported by five 400kV substations, will deliver 1,200 MW of renewable hydropower from Angola to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Once completed, it will be the world’s longest alternating-current 400kV transmission line.

Currently under development, HYDRO-LINK exemplifies how high-quality U.S. technology can provide extended asset life and unmatched operational reliability, creating a compelling investment opportunity for the private sector.

The project addresses the power supply deficit in southern DRC, expanding capacity for mining operations, industrial users, and public consumption. By increasing access to affordable, renewable electricity, HYDRO-LINK supports the sustainable growth of the critical minerals sector and complements broader infrastructure initiatives in the Lobito Corridor, backed by the United States.

In close partnership with the governments of Angola and the DRC, HYDRO-LINK demonstrates a new model for transmission infrastructure in Africa. By leveraging private-sector investment, it reduces capital expenditures for host countries, avoids long-term loans and high-interest costs, and mitigates national debt, all while delivering world-class, reliable electricity to drive economic growth.
