In line with EnergyNet’s core values around sustainability at WAECS 2025 we are committed to minimising the environmental and social impact of the event, while promoting sustainable practices throughout the conference delivery. Below is an outline of how we will embed sustainability through our operations at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City, Accra, Ghana.
Sustainable Venue Partnership: Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City, Accra, Ghana.
The West Africa Energy Cooperation Summit (WAECS) is proud to partner with the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City, Accra, a venue that exemplifies environmental leadership through its EarthCheck Silver Certification. In collaboration with Kempinski’s sustainability and engineering teams, we are implementing initiatives that align with our shared vision of a low-impact, energy-efficient event. From advanced building automation systems and LED lighting to comprehensive waste segregation and recycling programs, every aspect of the venue supports our mission to deliver a more responsible and sustainable summit experience.
By partnering with Kempinski at WAECS we hope to actively champion the event’s sustainability performance for a greener, more responsible Summit experience for all participants and partners.
Sustainable Transportation
To reduce the environmental impact of travel, WAECS will coordinate shared transport services . Participants are encouraged to carpool, use electric or hybrid vehicles, and utilise local public transport wherever feasible. By prioritising collective and low-emission mobility, WAECS is taking proactive steps toward a more sustainable transportation footprint.
Carbon Footprint Monitoring
Throughout the Summit, WAECS will track and measure environmental performance across key impact areas including energy use, waste generation, transportation, and catering. This data will be collected in collaboration with Kempinski’s sustainability team to calculate the overall carbon footprint of the event. The insights gained will inform future reduction targets, reporting, and help establish WAECS as a regional benchmark for sustainable conference management.
Sustainable Dining & Catering
Kempinski’s team is dedicated to environmentally responsible dining, sourcing locally grown and organic ingredients from regional suppliers to support Ghana’s agricultural economy while minimising food miles. Menus for WAECS will feature seasonal, plant-forward options, with careful attention to food waste reduction and composting of organic materials. Single-use plastics have been eliminated across all food and beverage service areas, ensuring a dining experience that reflects both luxury and sustainability.
Sustainable Signage & Printing
In line with our commitment to reducing material waste, WAECS 2025 is working exclusively with eco-friendly signage suppliers who use recyclable, non-PVC substrates, water-based inks, and lightweight materials to lower transport emissions. All printed materials will be produced using recycled or FSC-certified paper, with limited lamination and plastic finishes. Wherever possible, digital displays and reusable branding elements will replace traditional print signage — enabling us to create a professional, visually engaging environment with minimal environmental impact.
