Electricity Company Ghana
The Electricity Company of Ghana Ltd (ECG) is the principal state-owned power distribution utility in southern Ghana, serving over 4 million customers across regions including Greater Accra, Eastern, Volta, Ashanti, Western and Central.
Originally established as the Electricity Department in 1947, it became the Electricity Corporation of Ghana in 1967 and was incorporated as a limited liability company in 1997, wholly owned by the Government of Ghana.
ECG’s mission is to supply safe, high-quality, and reliable electricity to support Ghana’s socio-economic development. To achieve this, it has made significant investments — over US$1 billion since 2016 — to modernize its network, adopt smart metering, and improve service delivery.
The company is led by a Board of Directors and managed through a structure of regional operational units, and its operations are guided by a strategy focused on digital transformation, customer service, and partnership.
