UNDP
UNDP Rome Centre for Climate and Energy serves as a global hub for accelerating investment in sustainable infrastructure and energy transition. Its work focuses on helping developing countries unlock finance for climate action, decarbonisation, and inclusive economic growth. By bridging public and private capital, the Centre works to move projects from concept to investment readiness, supporting governments, project developers, and financial institutions in structuring initiatives that deliver both climate and development impact.
The Centre’s approach combines policy and technical support with transaction-oriented assistance. This includes early-stage project development, financial structuring, environmental and social assessments, and direct engagement with financiers to strengthen bankability. Working closely with UNDP Country Offices and development partners, the Centre helps create pipelines of investable projects aligned with national priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Currently, the Rome Centre is supporting a diverse portfolio of projects across Africa, providing targeted assistance to strengthen their financial, technical, and environmental readiness for investment. These projects span sectors such as renewable energy generation, energy access, agri-business, industrial decarbonisation, nature-based solutions, and sustainable finance. A central focus is to ensure that developing economies can access the financing and partnerships needed to implement low-carbon, climate-resilient growth pathways.
