Energy News Network Events West Africa Energy Cooperation Summit

Under the theme Maximising the Power of Regional Collaboration, the second annual West Africa Energy Cooperation Summit (WAECS) will bring together the 16 countries of West Africa and its neighbours in productive discussions on how the region and the public and private sector can work in collaboration to unleash its energy potential.

West Africa has among the lowest electrification rates in the world, which presents an exciting opportunity to build world-leading renewable and gas projects using the latest technologies, as well as an opportunity for the region’s countries to come together to standardise and seal transmission and interconnection strategies.

Bringing together the region’s energy ministers, heads of utilities and transmission companies, with decision makers from the private sector including international DFIs, commercial financiers, developers, technology providers and service providers, the summit will host productive discussions to explore partnership opportunities for current projects.

Topics to be discussed include ministers’ roundtable on the need for regional collaboration, bold moves utilities are taking to meet demand, which renewable and gas projects are looking for partnerships, what are international financiers looking for to say yes to investing and how can the private sector work with the public sector to fulfil the region’s transmission and interconnection needs.

The agenda will span across two days, with evening networking events allowing our strong group of 500 delegates to maximise their participation.
